The Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB), Tamil Nadu, has officially released the notification for the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) - 2026 for Paper-I and Paper-II. This specific notification is directed toward teachers currently working in Government, Government-aided, and Private schools.

This examination is specifically for teachers currently serving in schools:

  • Applicable Institutions: Government, Government-Aided, and Private Schools. 🏫

  • Cut-off Appointment Date: Applicants must have been appointed and been in service as teachers before September 01, 2025. 📅

🎓 Educational Qualification for TNTET Paper-I and TNTET Paper-II:

1. Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test for Working Teachers shall be conducted to the Secondary Grade Teachers / BT Assistants / BRTEs / Other equivalent cadre posts and the Special Education Teachers (IEDSS) who are working on Time scale/Consolidated/Part-time of pay under the Government and Government Aided Schools. 
2. The Secondary Grade Teachers / BT Assistant Teachers working under self – finance unit of Aided Schools and Unaided Recognized Private Schools are also eligible for this Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test.

3.  Qualified serving teachers who opt for promotion shall also apply.

TNTET Paper I (Total 150 Marks - 150 MCQ) 

(For Secondary Grade Teachers/Primary School Headmasters/Other Equivalent Posts)

i Child Development and Pedagogy (relevant to the age group of 6 – 11 years)  - 30 questions - 30 marks
ii Language-I Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada/ Urdu - 30 questions - 30 marks
iii Language II – English- 30 questions - 30 marks
iv Mathematics - 30 questions - 30 marks
v Environmental Studies  - 30 questions - 30 marks

Note: - 

i. Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, relevant to the age group of 6 – 11 years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning. 

ii. Language I will focus on the proficiencies related to the Medium of Instruction. The candidate has to choose any one of the languages mentioned in Sl.No.(ii) above in Paper-I table. 

iii. Language II English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.

iv. Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects. 

v. The questions in the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test Paper I will be based on the topics of the prescribed syllabus of the State for Classes I – V, but the standard, as well as linkages will be up to the Secondary Stage.


TNTET Paper II  (Total 150 MCQs - 150 Marks) 

(For BT Assistants/Middle School Headmasters/Other Equivalent Posts)  

i Child Development and Pedagogy (relevant to the age group of 6 – 11 years) - 30 questions - 30 marks

ii Language-I Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada/ Urdu - 30 questions - 30 marks

iii Language II – English  - 30 questions - 30 marks

iv a) For Mathematics and Science Teacher: Mathematics and Science or b) For Social Science Teacher: Social Science or c) For Any other Subject Teacher either iv (a) or iv (b)   - 60 questions - 60 marks

Note: - 

i. Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, relevant to the age group of 11- 14 Years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning. 

ii. Language-I will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction. The candidate has to choose any one of the languages mentioned in Sl. No.(ii) above in Paper II table. 

iii. Language II - English will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.

iv. Mathematics and Science / Social Science will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects.

Minimum Qualifying Marks for Paper 1 and Paper 2

1. For SC, SCA and ST - 40% or 60 Marks

2.  For BC, BCM, MBC/ DNC and PWD  - 50% or 75 Marks

3. For General Category - 60% or 90 Marks

TNTET 2026 FAQ (Working Teachers)

1. Who is eligible to apply for the TNTET 2026 notification?
Only teachers currently working in Government, Government Aided, and recognized Private schools who were appointed on or before 01.09.2025 are eligible.
2. Can I apply if I was appointed as a teacher after September 1st, 2025?
No. The notification explicitly states that only teachers appointed on or before 01.09.2025 are eligible to apply.
3. What is the last date to submit the online application?
The last date for submission of filled-in application forms through online mode is 10.04.2026.
4. When will the written examinations for Paper I and Paper II be held?
TNTET Paper I is tentatively scheduled for 04.07.2026 (FN) and TNTET Paper II for 05.07.2026 (FN).
5. What is the examination fee for General category candidates?
The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for each application for all candidates except SC, SCA, ST, and Differently Abled Persons.
6. What is the examination fee for SC, ST, and Differently Abled candidates?
The fee is Rs. 300/- for candidates belonging to SC, SCA, ST, and Differently Abled categories.
7. Can I apply for both Paper I and Paper II?
Yes, but you must submit separate applications and pay separate fees for Paper I and Paper II.
8. Is there a provision to edit my application after submission?
Yes, an "Edit Option" will be available for a limited window from 11.04.2026 to 13.04.2026.
9. Can I pay the fee offline via Demand Draft or Postal Order?
No. Offline payments in any form, including Demand Draft or Postal Orders, will not be accepted. Payment must be made only through the online payment gateway.
10. What is the mandatory document required for all working teachers?
The Service Certificate (Annexure-I), duly signed by the Headmaster/Principal and countersigned by the DEO/CEO/Competent Authority, is mandatory.
11. What are the minimum qualifying marks for the General Category?
Candidates must secure 60% (90 marks out of 150) to qualify.
12. What are the minimum qualifying marks for BC, BCM, MBC/DNC, and PWD candidates?
Candidates in these categories must secure 50% (75 marks out of 150) to qualify.
13. What are the minimum qualifying marks for SC, SCA, and ST candidates?
Candidates in these categories must secure 40% (60 marks out of 150) to qualify.
14. What is the exam format and duration?
The exam consists of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be completed in 3 hours. It is an OMR-based objective test.
15. Is there negative marking in the TNTET exam?
No, there is no negative marking in the TNTET examination; each question carries one mark.
16. Are teachers in self-finance units of Aided schools eligible?
Yes. Secondary Grade Teachers and BT Assistant Teachers working under self-finance units of Aided Schools are also eligible.
17. What are the language options available for Language-I?
Candidates can choose from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, or Urdu.
18. In what medium will the question papers be available?
For subjects like Child Development, Maths, and Science/EVS, candidates can select the question paper medium as either Tamil or English.
19. What is the syllabus difficulty level for Paper I?
Paper I is based on the State syllabus for Classes I-V, but the standard and linkages will be up to the Secondary Stage.
20. What is the syllabus difficulty level for Paper II?
Paper II is based on the State syllabus for Classes VI-VIII, but the standard and linkages will be up to the Higher Secondary (Senior Secondary) Stage.
21. What are the file size requirements for uploading certificates?
All necessary educational and service certificates must be uploaded in PDF format with a file size between 250 KB and 300 KB.
22. How will I receive my Hall Ticket?
Hall Tickets will not be sent by post. Eligible candidates must download them from the official TRB website (www.trb.tn.gov.in).
23. Can qualified serving teachers seeking promotion apply?
Yes, qualified serving teachers who opt for promotion are eligible and should apply.
24. Are Scribes allowed for Differently Abled candidates?
Yes, Scribe assistance is allowed for Differently Abled / Visually Impaired candidates based on valid claims and the submission of a Medical Board Certificate.
